About

Who we are

History
Boston Sand & Gravel Company has been a leader in the Ready Mixed Concrete and Aggregate Industry throughout New England since its establishment in 1914. The Company prides itself on providing a quality product and excellent service to the most demanding construction projects throughout the region, including the Central Artery/Tunnel project, waste water treatment plants, nuclear power plants, high-rise buildings, and slurry wall construction.

With a fleet of over 250 mixer trucks throughout its organization, Boston Sand has the flexibility to service jobs of any size. The Company’s network of plants has enabled it to produce concrete at required capacities for mass pours. The shipping and service departments have coordinated truck dispatch, arrival, and discharge under the most difficult job conditions.

Commitment to the Environment
Awareness of safety and environmental excellence are integral to the Company’s performance. Compliance with environmental and safety regulations is actively monitored by an experienced EHS staff.

Operations and Distribution
Boston Sand has extensive materials handling experience. The Company ships sand & gravel by rail to its Boston location. This operation proceeds uninterrupted through the very challenging winter months experienced in New England, as different material unloading and handling techniques developed over the years are used to cope with the severe conditions.

With plants in Southeastern Massachusetts (Southeastern Concrete), Metrowest (Rosenfeld Concrete Corp.) and Cape Cod (Lawrence Ready Mix), the Company supplies concrete to home builders, developers and contractors throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

The Technical and Quality Control department formulates mix designs and oversees quality control procedures. Most tests are performed on site, either in our Boston lab or at our Milford facility. All plant operations maintain and report quality control information to the QC staff.

The Company operates a large sand and gravel facility in Ossipee, New Hampshire on a 3,000 acre reserve tract. Material is delivered to greater Boston via New Hampshire Northcoast Railroad (Boston Sand's subsidiary), a short-line railroad, and Guilford Transportation's main line. An aggregate terminal in Everett operates a modern barge loading facility allowing access to Boston Harbor.

Commitment to the Customer
Its 85 year record of service to the New England construction industry is testimony to the financial and operational stability of Boston Sand & Gravel. The Company has grown as the New England region has grown and stands fully qualified and prepared to participate in the continued growth of the New England region.
